Last ditch sound question

From day one, my T42 (bought used from corporate turnover) has run great but you have to cup your hands around your ears to hear the sound.

Is a trip to the local IBM shop likely to change that?

Have you adjusted the sound in two places? The volume controls on the keyboard, and also in the control panel, select "sounds and audio devices properties" need to be adjusted.

Yes, and on the various apps that have volume controls.
