New Hard rive, now daily freezes

#1 Post by stuartf » Sat Feb 02, 2008 9:39 pm

It is a T43 2687D4U, running Bios 1.29. After months of consideration, installed a Samsung 160 gb drive and apart from the expected 2010 error, things went fine. Drive is capacious, quiet and quick. But since that installation three days ago, I have had a freeze each day. Nothing evokes a response, no ctrl-alt-del, no power off, no cursor movement, I have had to unplug, remove the battery and then it boots up and is as if nothing had happened. PC Doctor shows nothing amiss and I am looking for next steps.

Any way to go back to the old drive for a day or 2 just to make sure it is drive-related?

I have to concur with richk, try your old drive again. If no freezes after a few days you'll know there is a problem related to the Samsung.

Just curious, how did you get the new HDD working, fresh install or clone? Also, wonder if the new drive has a bad cluster (or clusters) with data written to it (thereby corrupting the data)?

There are many possibilities for what to look at after trying the old HDD again! If the old HDD is no longer available, I'd try a complete disk scan to check its integrity.
