Resume from Hibernate doesn't work?

#1 Post by adrianq » Sat Nov 27, 2004 8:40 am

I've been using my wife's X40 - lovely machine. 1.2 / 512Mb / 40gig

I've noticed that sometimes it takes ages to resume from hibernate - as in over 5 MINUTES.

During this time the progress bar moves along the bottom till the end of the screen, but nothing else happens for ages. Occasionally the hard drive LED flashes. Sometimes if I press the power button for a few seconds during this time, it comes out of hibernate immediately, and shows the shutdown menu options.

Sometimes it never comes back - and I need to hold down the power button to shut it off.

If I disable hibernate and then restart and then turn it back on again, all seems to be well. But after a few hibernates, the problem starts again.

Not sure, but it seems to be more likely to happen if I leave it hibernated for a long time.

Emailed IBM tech support and they just suggested I update my BIOS and all drivers, which I'd already done.

My wife doesn't bother to use hibernate anymore, because it hasn't been working.

Would really appreciate some help on this.

any quick way to tell if this is a windows problem or a hardware issue?

Is your suggestion to reinstall windows fresh or just to run the recovery discs and install all the preloaded software?

Have you called IBM Tech Support?

Have you tried reinstalling the Hibernation Utility program? Also there is an IBM Power Management update.
