Migrating from Acronis 11 Eval to Retail Version Question

#1 Post by eecon » Sun Feb 03, 2008 2:19 am

Since I can't find any place within the Arcronis 11 Eval Version to enter the Boxed Retail Key number that I just purchased locally, I presume I have to unistall the Eval version and then reinstall from the retail Acronis CD (and then check for the latest updates)?

Yup, that easy. I have Acronis Disk Director 10, and I entered my key at the time of installation. This thread will likely be locked, as it kind of belongs in the hardware/software forum, just FYI, and for next time. ;)

I am not familiar with Acronis 10, however my Acronis 11 True Image Home (Build 8053) works fine with both USB 2.0 Memory Sticks and DVD disks (single layer or dual layer).

I just tested a full backup of my T61 Service Partition to a 4GB USB 2.0 Memory Stick and it worked fine. I even added an Incremental Backup of the same Service Partition to the same USB stick as a further test.

Acronis treats the memory stick like a DVD and asks to insert your first removable media (Vol 1) and then hit OK. Since I already had the 4GB stick already plugged in, I simply hit OK and it proceeded to complete the backup and then verify it.

When I executed the Incremental, it proceeded to analyze data size and perform the Incremental Backup, then asked to insert the first media (Vol 1 where the original Full backup resides) for the verification process. Since everything was still on that one stick , I again simply hit OK and it proceeded to verify the backup (I guess Acronis is not smart enough to realize that the original full backup was on that same memory stick).

With Acronis v11 the USB memory sticks apparently work like DVD removable media .... i.e. if the data to be backed up appears larger than the size of the specified target media (uncompressed), Acronis 11 will ask to you to insert Vol 1 of your target media (sticks or disks) and you hit OK. If, after compression, the data still does not fit, Acronis stops and asks you to insert Vol 2 of your backup media, and so on. Then during verification (if that option is specified), Acronis will again ask you to swap Volumes of your media as necessary to complete the verification process.
