A31p connecting to a WUXGA monitor via DVI, any chance?

#1 Post by ulrich.von.lich » Sun Feb 03, 2008 4:37 am

I don't know if I'm asking too much on this old hard working machine. But since it has already 1600*1200 internal resolution and the FireGL 7800 seems quite capable so I thought there might be some way to get it to work with a 1920*1200 monitor.

I docked the A31p on a Mini-Dock which was hooked up to the WUXGA monitor via DVI cable. The internal LCD was turned off and the external LCD displays only 1600*1200. I tried to set up a WUXGA profile in Presentation Director but it didn't help.

I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 with the Lenovo's FireGL drive. I know manufacturer's drives usually have some limits but I couldn't find any drive for FireGL 7800 on ATI's site.

Any clue would be appreciated!

Theoretically, you should be able to get something more than 1600x1200....

I never use external monitors so I really can't help you here...but have my doubts on you ever being able to get a proper WUXGA picture out of that machine...

Good luck.

Try the Omega drivers from Driver Heaven. I use them to run external WUXGA and SXGA monitors (at the same time) from my T40p which has a similar chipset. The standard IBM/ATI drivers will not run the WUXGA resolution.

Update the Video driver to the latest from www.lenovo.com. Don't try to use the PM.

Use the Windows Display Properties panel, under the Settings tab, click on Monitor 2, then check the Extend my Windows.... check box and set the resolution to what you want.

If it still doesn't work for you, click the Advanced button, then Monitor tab. Find the Plug and Play monitor and change the driver for your monitor. You may need to uncheck the Hide Modes that... check box also.

If you are using only the external monitor, then set the primary display to same as external monitor then switch using Fn+F7.

I am using a A31p also for my 1366x768 TV via a DVI/HDMI cable.
