Solution to fix my a31?

#1 Post by syn13 » Tue Feb 05, 2008 2:04 am

Well not really fix but I just want some important files from the HD. The problem is that my system file for Windows XP Pro is either missing or corrupted. I wouldn't have a problem but my a31 is so warn out that the DVD-R Drive does not read any CDs/DVDs(green light just blinks), and the external CD-Rom drive doesn't even power up when plugged in the side slots.

Unfortunately, this a31 only came with the crappy dvd drive and extra battery so I can't think of anyway to transfer the files I need.

I have a T60 as a replacement, but the work I have on my a31's HD is irreplaceable...

Hello, welcome to the forum! You can easilly take the HDD out of your a31 and use the USB external enclosure for 2.5" HDD or ultrabay HDD adapter. And than your T60 will recongnize the drive and you will be able to copy the data from it. You can also swap your CD / DVD drive, as long as it's in the ultrabay 2000/plus slot of your a31.

A31 parts

#3 Post by Argonaught » Wed Feb 13, 2008 2:11 pm

I was given a non working A31 for parts, it has a working (as far as I know) 8X16X28XDVD combo I'm in Minden (A few hours North of Toronto) perhaps if you needed it for a few days I could mail it to you, alternatively, if as you say its worn out and someone else has or can show you a way to retrieve the valuable information we can make a deal somehow somewhere either way, let Me know it'll only cost a few bucks to mail you the drive
