T42P max performance

#1 Post by Bashar » Tue Feb 05, 2008 10:03 am

Hello All,
I have T42P 2.10Ghz Pentium M processor with 2GB ram and 7200RPM 60GB disk (i think)

i'm feeling its not being used perfectly or optimized to give its best performance

what do i need todo or think of checking todo to make it work on its best performance ?

Best Regards,
Bashar Al-Abdulhadi

Yes, a clean registry, clean task tray, cleaned and defragmented disk will give you a better performing system.

Hardware wise its maxed out. Try running a program called 'ccleaner' it cleans your hard drive registry and junk.

What operating system are you using? Which tasks feel slow?

Have you done benchmarks to confirm your feeling?

Also examine what services are running. Disable those you don't use to free up memory and CPU.

Disable hardware devices you don't use (parallel, infrared, bluetooth) to conserve battery life and free up memory.

Consider reducing display depth to 16 bits for a speed boost.

Check your hard drive for its cache size. If you do a lot with small files, a larger drive cache can improve performance.

This may be just a little off topic but I always wondered does this system registry cleaning help.
I used different programs to clean registry, System Mechanic, jv16 power tools (back when it was free) and although I never had problems with the speed of the machine I do not have either, when not using any of those registry cleaners.
Do you really see a noticeable difference after cleaning the registry?
I suppose it depends on the state of the system in a first place, but like I said, no benefit to me.

In my lab, we have a 450MHz Pentium III Dell desktop computer that was taking 10 minutes to boot into Windows XP. I used CCleaner to remove all junk files and fix all registry issues, and then used XP's defragmenter to defrag the 20GB hard drive. Boot time was reduced to 3 minutes.

By replacing the hard drive with one that has a larger cache.

The T41 never had any problems except a keyboard replacement

The T42 never gave me a problem

Ive disabled my Infrared via Device Manage, also if I remember correctly you can also disable it via the BIOS.

If you want ultimate boost in performance, restore the OS to factory then install what you need only, minus the crap that builds up.

Thats exactly what I did a week ago (reformatted the hardrive to factory settings), but I guess the infrared installs as part of the factory settings. :?
