R61i versus R60

#1 Post by JonathanGennick » Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:04 am

What is the difference between an R60i and an R60? I don't understand the "i" business.

Does anyone else find all the suffixes in the R series confusing?

It's my understanding the R60i has lesser specs than the R60 like using the T2080 CPU as opposed to the T2X00 or T5X00/T7X00 in the regular R60. It's the same as the R61i versus the R61. It's probably meant to be a more budget friendly version of the R60.

Thanks Fred. Actually, I had meant to inquire about R61i and R61. I mistyped the number in my original post.

Is it just a matter of lower spec? Is the case physically the same? It's one thing if it's just a CPU difference. It's another thing if the laptop as a whole is physically different. I would hate to buy an i series, for example, only to find out that the case is different, or that cheaper plastic is used than in the mainstream R series.

The casings are the same, the differences are; cpu, some R61i are not dockable and do not have modular drives. Just check the specs carefully.

Just got an R61i, NF5CGRR model. I've run a comparison with an R61 model and it looks the same, it's just a little heavier. My particular R61i model is dockable, has a modular optical drive and a touchpad. Cheaper and less powerful models lack all the above features. The only thing I would change at this model is the display. I used to have a WSXGA+ display on my previous notebook, and it's a little hard to get adjusted with just WXGA. But i'll get used to it.
