R61 - no media included

#1 Post by marcousw » Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:12 pm

I got my new R61 last night. It has great specs - 2.5 ghz T9200 processor, 4 gb ram, 7200 rpm hard drive - but it runs like a mule. The thing is loaded to the hilt with software, a bunch of which I don't need. I'd like to reformat the hard disk and do a clean Vista for Business install.

Problem: they didn't include media. It seems like they have a partition on the hard disk that stores a hard drive image, which won't help me at all.

How do I get a clean Vista for Business disk? Will Lenovo provide this upon request? Anything I need to say to make this happen?

You should burn off the recovery media first. Then Rescue and Recovery allows you to do a custom restore, choosing the only the programs you wish to install.

I used the instructions on it to create an install disc for windows xp as my R50 was also delivered without a cd when I bought it years ago. I'm afraid it hasn't got instructions for Vista and it also doesn't list the specific files you need for Vista, but it might be of some use to you.

EDIT: Oops.... forgot to link: http://www.supportpcs.co.uk/installcd/index.html.

Good luck.
