T30 w/2.4 getting too hot

#1 Post by Steel185 » Thu Feb 07, 2008 5:26 pm

I used to be my machine i've since upgraded to a T61 and given the T30 to my wife. She checks email and loads her ipod with it and now the CPU fan sounds like its going out. I want to take it back down to a 1.8 and get a good fan so it won't run nearly as often as the 2.4Ghz. The 91P8909 fan is suppose to be the one for the 2.4, should i get another one of these and put a 1.8 under it? or is it a waist and just get the "fan2" (i don't know the part number) and that should serve the heat requirements. This machine just idles for a large amount of the day, even then the 2.4 kicks the fan off and on, getting up to 60C(with a dying fan) at boot up. Usually hangs out around 43C. I'm set on the downgrade, just need help on the fan.
t-30, 1.8Ghz, 512 RAM, 60gig Travelstar 7200rpm

Do NOT get the standard fan p/n 46L4753
Fan 2 has p/n 46P3132 and works great (and very quiet) with my 2.0GHz CPU. Hardly ever comes on.

You could even consider a 1.6GHz CPU, they produce even less heat.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

What a coincidence. My wife's T30 has a 1.8, that I've been wanting to upgrade, if you're interested in a swap! Runs perfect, I Can give you screenshots etc, if you want. Her's has a the stock IBM fan on it. If we were to do a swap, I may as well send the CPU/fan, as I am assuming I would need to upgrade the fan if Iwas going to run 2.0 +, right? Either way, nothing set in stone, but thought i'd throw that out there :)
