"dupe" the system?

#1 Post by corleone » Fri Feb 08, 2008 11:57 am

I have an out-of-warranty 3 year old t-42. While I can get it to boot up, some of the time I have issues that I think are motherboard related.

I just received an unsolicited e-mail from IBM about extending my warranty. The cost was $149 for a 1 year "mail-it-in" parts and labor warranty. They told me that the warranty does not protect pre existing conditions. When I inquired as to how they would know if somethign was preexisting I was told that they "trust the consumer" on this.

Would it be wrong for me to send in my machine to have them look at the afformentioned issue?

Morally dilemmed.....

C.

The fact that you're even asking the question here shows that you believe it is morally questionable. I agree.

I don't think anyone can help you here. It is purely a personal decision. I think most would send in the money, wait a week and call with a "new" problem. Another choice would be to buy a used board and swap it out. What are the problems you are experiencing?
