Where is my brightness thermbar? ...Reboot fixed it!!

#1 Post by Muse » Sat Feb 09, 2008 9:26 am

Suddenly without warning my T60 is not showing the thermbar when I press Fn + Home or Fn + End (increase brightness or decrease brightness). The screen does get brighter or dimmer, however.

Also, at the same time suddenly the three small round siler buttons at the upper left that control volume including the left one that is mute, are having no evident effect. The notebook is silent and I see no thermbar for that either.

What is happening? TIA for any help!

It might be that your "Hotkey utility" driver stopped working or is corrupt. Try reinstalling it from the following link:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... LENOVO#rdt

Use your Type number in the text box and then follow the drivers link

I hope this helps.

I gained access to the volume control in my taskbar and unmuted the speakers that way. But I still have no thermbar showing the current volume level or brightness level. I assume I inadvertently turned off that functionality. How do I get it back? Thanks.

Before hitting that link I decided to see if a reboot would fix things and it did. Mmm. Thanks!

I am glad it worked. A lot of times a therapeutic reboot is all Windows requires - if one is lucky :)
