a22m cd/dvd problem
a22m cd/dvd problem
Hi All!
I'm new here and I'm from Hungary, so I'm sorry if there's a problem with my english.
So my problem is, that I have an A22m Thinkpad system, that I hadn't been using for years, because the LCD went wrong. In the last days I had it repaired, so I was happy for being able to use my machine again. But for some reason I had problems with reading cd-s and dvd-s. Mainly with rewriteable disks. I tried some original disks too, and there was no problem with them.
In addition I tried to replace the DVD-ROM with a CD-ROM, but the problem remained, so I guess the hardware is OK.
What could the problem be? I've read some of your threads on this forum, so I think this is the place, where I can find the solution:)
Thanks for your help
Daniel from Hungary

First of all, welcome to the forum!
What software are you using to play CDs/DVDs...?
Let us know and we'll take it from there.

What do you mean , when you ask about the software I'm using?
I have windows 98SE installed on it.
Well... we used an external dvd-writer on it, I think it was an LG, and there was a software-pack coming with it called Cyberlink DVD solution, including PowerDvd and other kinds of stuff, maybe drivers too. But it used to work great that time.
So is this the software, that you were asking?
Thank you for replying so fast

One more thing came to my mind, when the machine was still operating with its LCD, there was a DVD that I tried to watch with the laptop's own DVD-ROM, but it didn't work, and then I tried this external USB DVD-RW, but it didn't work as well. However there was no problem with the disk itself, it could be read on other systems.
Now I can't try this test again, because i dont have that external DVD, probably someone has borrowed it, and forgot to return it.

Try updating the firmware for your DVD player from the Lenovo website...that's all I can think of at the moment...getting late here on East Coast, but I'll be back with a clear head tomorrow...

Well... are you sure, that this would help? As I said, I replaced the DVD with a CD-ROM, but the problem still existed.
I've read it somewhere, that I should turn DMA on, but it's not available in the settings in my system. I also saw pictures where I should find that checkbox, but it is not there for me.
Do you think that would help? And do you have any idea, how I could enable it?
Thanks a lot for your help:)
