Using a T40 Motherboard on a T42

#1 Post by Josue Barreto » Sun Feb 10, 2008 9:46 am

In the company I work a few laptops were thrown away, one of them a T42 15’’ Inch Display, This T42 had a dead motherboard, I bought a motherboard (FRU#39T5400) this motherboard is originally for T40 with 14’’ display. After installing windows and all drivers Everything worked perfectly except one thing, the display look a bit fuzzy, on a 800 x 600 resolution it looks great but if I put it on 1024 x 768 I can’t barley read text in windows all text look blurry. Any Ideas?? :( :(

What's the machine type and model listed on the bottom of the T42 machine?

It is SXGA, 1400x1050. You should use this resolution to avoid blurriness.

Your LCD is SXGA+. You will need to set the resolution to 1400X1050.

I guess it has to be something else, still looks horrible, another thing that’s happening is that when I connect an external monitor it doesn’t display the color red.

Jose,

Estas usando el software installer para recibir todos los drivers originales de ibm?

Pregunto por que puede que si no lo hiciste esto pueda traerte problemas.

Then try to get of recovery disk for the T40, search in the market place i knew there's a seller that is selling them at a good price...

O simplemente comienza en cero reinstalando XP formateando el disco duro.

En el pasado yo tuve una T40 a la cual le reemplaze el mobo por uno de T42p y le puse sxga+ y no tuve que reinstalar xp, tu problema es muy raro.
