T43 details?
Googled "thinkpad t43" and found web pages at sundigi.com, written in chinese?, on T43 . Enough was in English to be intriguing. Can someone read it and share details? A Google translation didn't work.

English Words
Some of the English from the site:
ThinkPad T43, ATI Mobility 9700 (MH), Mobility FireGLT2 (MR9600), Mobility Radeon 9700, Sonoma, FSB 533 MHz, Dothan, DDR2 533 MHz, Espresscard, Express 16x, Intel Mobile PC, Alviso, Intel Raodmap, Sonoma, Napa, Rome, 14.1, Yonah, Calistoga, Mini PCI ExpressCard2, SATA-II
It seemed to describe features for the X series too and I couldn't tell which is which in above.
Sharing them for those of you who may have more insight into their meaning.

I would not expect Sonoma based ThinkPads to have a Mobility Radeon 9700. Those are AGP parts, and all mobile ATI PCIe parts will be X series (e.g. Mobility Radeon X800).
I would expect a Mobility X600 and X700 in the mobile sector.
I would expect a Mobility X600 and X700 in the mobile sector.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!
My Chinese is better than English, so maybe I can help a bit.
T43 was supposed to release in October this year, but because of the delay of Sonoma, it won't be released until next year. But the finger recognization system will be released with new T42.
Will T42 use ATI M11? Probably not. Blah, blah, blah... (complained about the utilization of ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 for almost all T40 and also in T42).
Earlier next year, after the release of Sonoma, T43 will be released. The difference between T43 and T40-T42 would be very much similar as T23 to T20-T22, i.e. significant.
There will be:
Dothan CPU which support FSB 533MHz
DDR2 533MHz RAM
Expresscard*1
Video card would be ATI M22, and then ATI M24, for workstation, there will be ATI M24-GL, all of them support PCI Express 16X.
Although Alviso support SATA HDD, T43 would probably still use P-ATA HDD.
Probably in 2006, IBM will introduce wide screen T-series -- T50:
14.1 Widescreen
Yonah CPU (Dual core)
Calistoga Chipset (Including ICH7-M)
Built-in Mic and Camera
Advanced Li-Polymer battery
PCI-Express: miniPCI-Express, ExpressCard*2, SATA-II HDD
New ThinPad Port Replicator and Dock (support PCI Express)
Blah, blah, blah...
There will be a new X-series release. Codename: Phoenix which use Dothan LV 1.5GHz or Dothan ULV 1.2GHz. X31 will be ended next year since X40 cannot fully replace it.
Hope this will help. Sorry about my so-so English and little knowledge of hardware.

Dude, Edmonton! You kick some major a$$!!!
That was great stuff to read. So, we will be seeing express card, very nice to hear that. The increase to 533 FSB will be nice, though the DDR2 support is a mixed bag. Lack of SATA drives is a real bummer. Though for us with PATA drives its always nice to hear that manufacturers will keep making them for a long time to come as a result.
I was totally wondering what the bit about the T50 was. That is great to hear. I guess I know what my next notebook will be now
You did a great job on the translation. All that info makes a lot of sense and I am just super thrilled to find out more as I am sure all of us are. Once again, thanks Edmonton!

T50 My next Notebook - 2006? 14.1 Widescreen! Perfect!
I love the specifications of the future T50! Especially the widescreen! I hope they accelerate it to third quarter of 2005 however! It going to be nice to see what it looks like! IBM it seems is the only notebook maker not having a widescreen in 2005!
I will definitely buy this notebook 6 months after it's introduction. Why? Get bugs worked out and price drop!
Cheers!
Harry

Oh that is exciting to hear. But at the same time I am sad that my notebook will be outdated very soon.
Well it always happens with computers. I am mostly envious of dual core processor... Since I don't plan to get a new computer for 3 years it looks like they will have dual core by the time I need to purchase a new laptop.
This is was exciting read, thanks to all those who translated the article...

Sonoma
Googled Sonoma and found this from UK Computer Shopper:
http://www.computershopper.co.uk/shoppe ... em64t.html
>>>Thursday 21st October 2004
Intel's Sonoma to launch January, 600-series CPUs to include EM64T 12:57PM
Despite reports that it may delay its Sonoma platform launch to the second quarter of next year, Intel has informed its clients in Taiwan that its new mobile platform will be launched globally between 17-21 January, 2005, with pre-launch sales beginning in Japan 10 days earlier, according to sources at Taiwan PC makers.
Intel also affirmed that its Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (EE) 3.73GHz and 600-series desktop CPUs, which will also be launched in the first quarter of next year, will feature Intel's Extended Memory 64 Technology, or Intel EM64T, the sources noted.
In the third quarter of 2005, Intel will launch its dual-core processor for desktops, codenamed Smithfield, the sources added. The launch was previously reported as set for mid-2005.<<<
Could we anticipate T43s in late January '05?

Not if it's another "paper launch" as the newest P4 3.8GHz CPUs...Esteban wrote: Could we anticipate T43s in late January '05?
And I think that IBM will test the new platform a lot to build a rock solid system around it. As we are used to see it from them: premium quality - not a "quick and dirty" solution.

Re: Sonoma
I don't think there's any shortage of Dothan Pentium Ms, and Intel has done a fairly good job with its PCIe chipsets (well, other than the bad batch of 915s, but that was a manufacturing problem and not a design problem).
IBM launched the T40/p the same week that Intel officially launched Centrino, so I expect that IBM will probably be ready for the Sonoma launch with a T43.
