#1 Post by Raine » Sun Feb 10, 2008 12:49 pm

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a new keyboard for my R40, and was wondering if anyone here may have one for sale. I'm looking on ebay as well.....

Thanks

If you are looking on EBay, consider bidding on one of the NMB keyboards.

@ Raine: Just FYI, there are two "different" keyboards for R40's; one being made by the companu NMB and one made by the company Chicony. The "FRU" (Field Replacable Unit [number]) of these two keyboards are found at Keyboard FRU parts list - ThinkPad R40/e. If you want to have the exact same keyboard as you have now, the easiest is to simply open your R40, and see whether you have the NMB or Chicony. Most people (incl. I!) prefer the NMB keyboards due to its more tactile action.

Search on e.g. eBay for 08K4729 (NMB) or 08K4757 (Chicony). If you have not tried to replace a keyboard on a ThinkPad before, have a look on the "how-to" videos, which you will find at Hardware removal and installation - ThinkPad R40, R40e.

Best regards,

Johan
