I am not exactly sure of the difference but this information comes from the Hardware Maintenance Manual:

Those type numbers that are listed seem to be 1.13Ghz XGA systems. As much as I have done with the T23, I do not know why these systems are special enough to earn this warning.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread. I just had the same question to answer in order to replace a dead T23 Mobo.
I found this document which explains the issue:
There was a change in the chipset, so if you replace your board with a different FRU on an existing Windows installation, you might have some problems because Windows has to detect all the system components again.
So, if you install a new OS anyway, it does not make a difference which FRU you take.

Regards,

Thanks for posting that information! Here's the relevant table from the Lenovo Support page:

Code: Select all

If you have this P/N You should order this P/N
     26P7997 26P8218
     26P8218 26P8218
     12P3770 12P3770
Furthermore, the "B1" planar can be recognized by opening the dock port covers on the bottom of the system and seeing if there's a black triangular mark near the back right corner of the connector. The rule is: if you have a B1 planar, then replace it with an FRU 12P3770, otherwise, use the FRU 26P8218. I'll look through my T23 systems and if I find a B1, I'll post a photo of that area
