I recently purchased a T61p and I’m nearly through customizing it to suit all of my preferences. I’m trying to set up the Touchpad’s “Tap Zones” and I have a question that I thought someone here may know the answer to…
Right now I have “Browse Back”, “Maximize/Restore”, and run a program “Show Desktop” ...
I tried to add Alt-F4 and/or Alt-Tab by choosing “Record and play a sequence of keystrokes”. That was unsuccessful. Then I tried manually typing those commands into the “Record and play..” box using a macro script but that was not allowed. I really don’t know much about programming so any help would be greatly appreciated.
All I'm trying to do is add an “Alt+F4” Tap zone (or any equivalent to close the current window) as well as an “Alt+Tab” zone (or any other command which will let me “scroll” through windows in sequence…)
Once more, thanks in advance for any help,
Jay
TouchPad Tap Zone Customization (Need Help Please)
Re: TouchPad Tap Zone Customization (Need Help Please)
I know this is a really old thread, but wanted to help anyone who still has a trackpad that allows customization via tap zone and who might be looking for a way to use it with the Windows alt+tab function. At first it appears that you can't because Windows tries to actually execute the alt+tab command rather than record it. However, the trick is basically to activate and deactivate (click on and off of) the recording window to record each action (holding down alt, pressing tab, and releasing alt) separately without actually having to press alt and tab at the same time. See below for detailed instructions (the trick to doing this is in step 5):
1) In Control Panel, go to "hardware and sound." Then under Devices and Printers, click "mouse".
2) Click the "device settings" tab, then click the button "settings" to open up your touchpad's customization options.
3) Go to: Tapping > Tap Zones, and check "enable tap zones," expand the "tap zones" tree, then select whichever zone you are trying to customize.
4) Click "Record and play a sequence of keystrokes," then click "configure."
5) Now follow these instructions exactly and this will work:
a) Click "start" in the recording dialogue. Press and hold down "alt" ({Alt_DN} should appear in the recording box), but don't let go of alt. While holding down "alt," click outside of the recording dialog (on your desktop or another program) so that the recording dialog is no longer active. Now let go of "alt." Nothing else should appear in the recording box if you did it right.
b) Click back on the recording dialog inside the recording box and press and release the "tab" key (Tab should appear after {Alt_DN}).
c) Click outside of the recording box (on your desktop or another program) and hold down the "alt" key.
d) While still holding down "alt" use your mouse to click on the recording dialog inside the recording box and then release the "alt" key ({Alt_UP} will appear after Tab). The final recorded command should show up as "{Alt_DN}Tab{Alt_UP}"
e) Click stop, hit ok.
You just recorded the alt+tab command to a tap zone! Save and/or apply your changes.
