Changed T22 MOBO to a T20 MOBO (FIXED)

#1 Post by Phazer » Tue Feb 12, 2008 1:54 pm

Well . . after looking and looking for a reasonably priced mobo for my daughters T22, I bout a group of 5 off of fleecebay, (it was within driving distance so I saved shipping). After sorting through them, (all are marked 08K3747) and picking what looked like the only good one, it was succesfully installed. After doing a few reboots, I came to the conclusion that it was running a little sluggish. Checking BIOS and system info, it's running at 700MHz, (which is what the original T20 board shows at Lenovos website). It's got a 900MHz CPU in it and was running at that speed with the old MOBO. No. . . . .I ran out of time last night to do alot of different checking. Did a search on this forum but didn't really find anything. I used all the original items out of the T22, (HDD, mem, daughter card). Of course when I first booted up, it installed something but wasn't paying attention. Only thing I had to do was set date/time and adjust display resolution.

Original problem was the CMOS battery connector coming loose from the MOBO multiple times. I actually think the main battery might have been the culprit by pushing up on the little plastic pipe that the CMOS battery wires go through. My last repair attempt resulted in too much heat on the connector terminals which made them sag inside the white connector body. When I tried to plug the battery in, too much force pushed the connector off the MOBO and pulled one of the solder pads off.

So, in a nutshell, what do you suggest I try first.

Thanks in advance.[/b]

Sounds like the 900Mhz CPU is throttling down to 700Mhz as a SpeedStep processor should. Try going to the Power Manager settings and selecting "High System Performance" (or some such setting) and then check the system speed with MobileMeter or CPU-Z.

I was reading some posts on that and actually came away just as confused as before. BIOS shows it as 700, (which was my main concern). I didn't actually shut down the speedstep but tried checking at idle and with long-load programs and both ways still showed at 700. Bad thing is, I have 3-4 nights of auto-repair this week so won't get many things checked/done until late this weekend. In fact, it's still on the dining room table with the palmrest and keyboard still off, (my wife hates me . . . ).

I love-to-hate laptops . . . . . . . I knew I should've bought Harryc's decked out T23 . . . . .

Ended up upgrading the BIOS from 1.08 to 1.20. Didn't do the 1.22 because of the mention of battery charging problems in another post. Maybe they hadn't come out with a 900 CPU when that BIOS was released. Everything is reporting as running at 900MHz now and I'm, "happier than a gopher in soft dirt".
