Just a quick question. If one buys a Thinkpad with Windows XP preinstalled is there a program in place at Lenovo to upgrade to Vista with all the usual ThinkVantage tools and upgrade the recovery partition to show this?
Or does one have to buy a separate license from an OEM and install like you would on a desktop?
Thank-you.

I think it's cheaper to buy the TP with Vista, and order the Downgrade-to-XP set at the same time ($45.- in the USA).
You then create a set of Vista Recovery disk and downgrade right after.
Best(?) of both worlds...

Actually the downgrade to XP CDs should be free if you order within three months after purchasing your computer; it was free for me, anyway and the CDs arrived a day after I placed my order for them. So that's an even better deal.RealBlackStuff wrote:I think it's cheaper to buy the TP with Vista, and order the Downgrade-to-XP set at the same time ($45.- in the USA).

I would have thought as much myself. However on the UK websites Insight UK the more powerful configurations cost a lot more with Vista. Where as the lesser powerful configurations all seem to be shipping with Vista... I'd like to have Vista Business on it but my particular configuration that I want has no counterpart with Vista on it for a reasonable price.
I wasn't sure if Lenovo do direct sales in the UK.
