F12 not working

#1 Post by Paul Unger » Wed Feb 13, 2008 11:22 pm

Is there any place to check / confirm / reset the key mappings for the Fn keys? Mine seem to have gone wonky . . . I first noticed that Fn+F12 (Hibernate) didn't work (but Fn+F4 (Standby) does). F3 (Power), F5 (Wireless), F8 (Touchpad?), F9 (?) don't work. F4 (Standby), F7 (Presentation Director), PgUp (thinklight), Home / End (Bright / Dim) do work. Do some of these depend on a service? Could I have it disabled? Something went whacky with "Sticky Keys" yesterday (I hate that utility  ; CapsLock off, all my typing was UPPERCASE / CapsLock on, all my typing was lowercase . . . ; completely daft!) Could this be part of the problem?

Likely if you've been tweaking around with your OS which you don't seem to mention.

Reinstall hotkey drivers, ACPI Power Management drivers, display drivers. (Assuming you've Windows XP).

For Windows Vista reinstall the following:

1. Lenovo System Interface driver.
2. ACPI Power Management.
3. Display driver. (from lenovo)
4. Hotekey utility.

Add Presentation director to the list too.

I did play with some "Services". I had set ThinkPad PM Service to "Manual", thinking (incorrectly it seems) that if it was needed it would start. It didn't. So I've set it back to "Automatic" and F12 works. F5, however, still doesn't . . . Oh well, at least I can hibernate!

[Note to self: learn what a service does before changing its properties. ]
