Experience of using a Tablet convertible

Please share your experience of using a Tablet Convertible laptop.
I think of buying a refurbished X series laptop, either convertible or not.
I never previously used a Tablet PC, and having a convertible seemed to me as a pretty cool bonus, at least. After brief usage in a shop I was disappointed. Do I really have to use this special pen, there is no touch-screen? It felt so awkward, totally not worth the added risc of breaking the whole thing.

Am I missing something?

If you want a touchscreen then you need to look at the X61 Tablet.

Personally, there is one very specific function that I use my X41 Tablet PC for. I'm a University professor and find that a tablet PC together with a video projector is an almost ideal blackboard substitute. I now teach all of my classes on the tablet PC; it's almost perfect for this application.

For general computing tasks I usually use the tablet in standard laptop mode since it is a lot faster/easier to use a keyboard. Having a convertible tablet like the X-series is nice since it is easy to switch between slate mode and laptop mode.

I have it one week and im very happy with it. It has marvellous IPS display, superb keyboard, in tablet mode i use it next to my work computer... for communication and notes. I also painted my gfs hips with it (and she liked it... as do I). If you hesitate, then i would recommend taking into account:

- X40 battery life is said to be much better (3-4h, 7h on 8-cell)..
- X41 tablet IPS display is unique
- X40 supports both cf cards in addonics-ide-to-2-compactflash-adapter
- X41/X41t support ddr2, which is extra cheap as of now
- pen may take longer to adapt. i have no problems after 7 days usage... edit: I agree with teetee, the writing is slower... but for mousing, browsing, drawing it it ok
- X40/X41 is lighter than the tablet

I started using X41 tablet since last week and found the tablet function is quite useful especially in the art drawing (ex. sketch) and taking ideas/notes. I have the ink desktop open and I can write down certain info on the screen. Sometimes I like writing instead of typing anyways but typing is probably still faster then writing.

I just recently got an x-41 tablet, which is my first tablet. The tablet function is fun to have, but doesn't really serve unless your work out on the field or have to jot down notes. The spinning screen does wow people though

Looking back, I think a slate tablet without a keyboard is fine for my purposes. I rarely ever take it out of the tablet case. For the times you want a keyboard, USB should do the trick. As for the Wacom pen, it's great. I wanted a full touch screen, but have read it is a bit tough to use. When they have a tablet with the touch screen of an iPhone, it will be a lot easier.
