Ram speed testing program...

#1 Post by SaberX » Thu Feb 14, 2008 10:31 am

Anyone know of a good free small program that will test the systems speed ?
Heres what i want to do.Test the A31P i have with diffrent amounts of ram installed.I like to see what size ram would be best.

Like with the A31P i have installed a single stick of 1gig and it ran fine.
I installed the 1 gig + a 256 meg and the system felt the same.

I then installed 2 x 1gig chips(2 gigs) and i did fell a little diffrence but i like to run a few tests to find out what will give me the best proformance.

Sounds like what you need is a computer benchmarking program. Something which the computer magazines use to assess the performance of different systems using a standardized series of tests. Google around for that term I've highlighted and this is one you will find for free (30 day trial):

NOTE: All links to PC-Doctor software hosted by me are dead. Files removed 8/28/12 by manufacturer's demand.

Thanks Ray.
That program seems to be what i'm looking for.
Now i have to run some tests with diffrent sizes ram installed.

If others want to run the same program and post there laptop info and what they get in the testa it would be great.

EDIT:
I just ram some tests with the program in the link above.
This is what i came up with.....With the program there is a icon at top to run full tests. At the end a box pops up with a score rating...
This is what i got...
My A31P with 2.0Ghz cpu,40 gig/5400rpm drive and cd-rw/dvd-rom.

With a single stick of 1gig ram -------- 239.2 Rating
With a 1 gig + a 256 meg ram ---------239.3 Rating
With just the single 256meg ram ------237.8 Rating
With 2 gigs of ram ------------------------243.2 Rating

So with that program , proformanceTest 6.1 , the amount of ram dont make alot of diffrence.
I must look for a few other programs to try it out.

All the benchmark programs I've tried had this same limitation. Only the type of memory matters, not size.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP
