Now on Tech Net: Vista Service Pack 1
Just for you who have subscriptions to Tech Net, SP1 is up and ready for you. Most likely MSDN has it now, too.
The Tech Net server was a little "twitchy" this morning, but maybe that's due to heavy traffic.
I just installed the service pack and after a few minutes of casual usage my T60 is running just dandy. So far nothing in the speed area that knocks my socks off, but it's sure isn't any slower. I get a Performance Index of 4.0 on my machine due to the "gaming index" or whatever they call it. Other numbers are in the 4.7-4.9 range. Those numbers are no different than before, but then that a "hardware thing", I suppose.
I've been running in Classic Mode all along in Vista, but I may mess around with Aero or some other visuals just for kicks later on today to see how it works. With my machine, I'm sure I won't get as much "Wow" as some other computer users...

Ditto on that, bill. mgo, my scores have not changed either, even though it now displays 4GB on the RAM! Hmmm....
Oh, and anything over 4.0 is considered to run everything just perfectly fine at the present time. You can turn on the Aero interface. See if you see a slowdown.

Good move. I can report only goodness on SP1, and I've used it for about a week with zero problems on my now old 32-bit Vista install, as well as on my fairly new 64-bit version. Don't expect any new features. And that's what Service Packs are not designed for anyway. My machine is noticeably faster for me, thanks to SP1.

After installing Vista SP1 on my Z60m, I am no longer able to turn my Wireless Radio (Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg) on or off using Fn+F5, and Access Connections is unable to turn it on either. (I can turn the Bluetooth radio on/off).
If I uninstall the wireless driver from the Device Manager and trigger a driver reinstall by scanning for new hardware, the wireless radio is turned on again, but then I still cannot turn it off via software (the hardware switch does turn it off, and it turns back on again when switching it on).
System Update does not offer any new drivers.
Does anyone else see this post-SP1 problem? Does anyone know which drivers/packages are responsible for controlling the state of the wireless radio?
Thanks,
Gary

download and install the older version from Lenovo if you want to use those. I just use the hardware switch to turn off wifi when i need to and FN + F5 to turn on/off bluetooth if needed.

I havnt had no issues with SP1 expect with Firefox and Foldergaurd which I fixed by uninstalling them and reinstalling. To get Firefox fixed I had to delete the folder from the Programs folder after I uninstalled it and also I had to delete the folders from the AppData as well. But other than that I am very happy

If you are having problems after installing SP!, it is probably driver related. You just need to reinstall any driver that could be causing the problem. On mine, Fn-F5 stopped working but reinstalling the Hotkey driver which reinstalled onscreen display, fixed that for me. I also reinstalled ThinkV power manager and power management driver, and maybe a few others (ultranav driver and utilities) for good measure. Everything is working fine here now.
