ROFL - T4x misc base parts from IBM

#1 Post by K. Eng » Mon Nov 29, 2004 2:44 pm

I was really mad that EZServ managed to loose one of the rubber feet on my T40, so I called IBM up and they said they'd send me a new set of parts.

Sure enough, I received a box from the IBM depot in Mechanicsburg, PA when I got home earlier this afternoon. This box was pretty big, about the same size as the boxes EZServ uses to transport ThinkPads to and from the depot.

So I opened this box, and inside is another box and some packing materials. This box I opened, and it looked like it was big enough to ship a T40 in (had the foam walls and padding.

And inside this box was a flat ziplock bag with various tiny parts. All that packing for a few tiny parts?

The FRU P/N was 13N5104. I got 2 extra PC Card doors, some small springs, foam strips with sticky back (great for proping up a keyboard with a bit of flex on the righhand side), extra screw caps, and a set of 4 rubber feet for the T4x :)

There were also some sticker type things that matched the outline of a system board, and some stickers that appeared to be thin copper plates with adhesive on the back.

Don't know what a lot of this stuff is for, but I thought you might find it interesting.

If you look closely at the bag of parts, you can see the ridged front feet to the upper right of the screw caps, and directly above the screw caps is a back foot (the other one I put on my T40 to replace the missing one).

Lol, that is hilarious dude. Only a big monolith like IBM would do that...totally silly to ship that huge box and all those parts you don't need. But, I am sure from their perspective it is far cheaper to just ship all the parts than to have some guy sift through the bag and pick out individual parts and ship them in little envelopes. Oh well...at least you can lose a lot of other parts now and be set with extra to boot! :D
