WLAN problems on a T42

#1 Post by dynaflux » Fri Feb 15, 2008 2:04 pm

I have configured IBM Access Connections but have problem when trying to connect to a WLAN connection. I can see several network but when I choose one I got a message saying that the choosen profile can't be used. This will occure on every WLAN i choose even if they are strong (even if they are 100% according to the meter).
Prior to this I used the Windows network application and could access WLAN:s without problems.

That IBM Access connections totally sucks. I would uninstall it.

Yes, I had to system restore after uninstalling it as it somehow uninstalled my wireless adapter

Is it really that bad? Isn't there a way just to disable it? A system restore would have to go a month back when I enabled IBM Access Connections.

Its that bad

Over the years I have had so many problems with it that I instantly recommend that people delete it.

Thanks for the info. I'll go for a system restore. If that wouldn't work; can I just uninstall it?

No. its not! Access Connections is an extremely useful utility if you need to connect to a variety of network access points in differing locations.

I've been using very succesfully across a wide range of ThinkPad models, including all the T4x range, with no significant problems for over 5 years now.

Wireless connectivity troubleshooting takes a degree of patience which some users here don't seem to have. For a start, I suggest that you uninstall Access Connections and your WiFi card driver (in that order), reboot your Thinkpad and reinstall both in reverse order.

Cheers,

Bill B.

I agree with Bill 100%.

Access Connections works well for me. I have used other programs and none were as flexible or worked as well, for me that is. YMMV

I have used for years on several T series as well, but it has NOT added any significant value. All it has done is caused me problems.
