New R61 Config. Questions??

#1 Post by boatdoc » Fri Feb 15, 2008 4:22 pm

Sold the T23 and R40. Getting ready to buy new. Going with the R series just because I like the solid feel and want built in video. The only hold up is the screen size 15 widescreen or can I still get the 15 regular.
4 in 1 card reader???? There seems to be some conflicting info as to what model has what.

Proc. 2.4 4mbl2 or 2.5 6mblt (same price)

This will be a desk top 90% the memory will be gotten local 4g.
the lid will be closed and running on a seperate screen most of the time. Will only use when I travel to watch movies and hook to Yamaha outboards to read the code's etc.

Need: Web Cam, Card Reader, Roll Cage!!!( fall from boat) wifi, B tooth.
Thanks for any help, boatdoc
Lurking and learning. wish i could help but I know so little.

If you are going to use it outside, X series tablet is best. They have a brighter LCD and smaller and easier to handle. Alternative to that is a Panasonic Toughbook tablet.

These are smaller, lighter, less space required to use. Since you will use a monitor, smaller screen is ok on the desktop.

You are correct there are better choices if all I did was use it out side. But it spends most of it's time on a desk or in a hotel room.
Been on hold with lenovo with no succes to find out if the R61 has a card reader or not.
Would like to take advantage of the 15% discount and the new 2.5 processor that ends monday.
Any body have a r61 with a built in sd card reader??????

I have no use for the Expresscard slot in my T60. So I put a SD/Expresscard adapter there. I have a SD/PCMCIA adapter in a T40. There are a lot of this kinds of solutions out there.

Half of the people in our office use X60s (the other half use T series) and they have a SD card slot.

Either I get the T61 with card reader and no web cam or I get the R61 with web cam and no card reader. I have no problem with the express slot solution. Just trying to have my cake and eat it too.

Both are about the same price with the 15/20% discounts.
Would rather have the R61 because of the solid case. Just find it hard to except that I can't have both on one unit........
trying to keep crap to a minimum.

Yes, I just got mine yesterday. The "Media Card" reader appears to be an SD card reader (although I don't have an SD card yet to test it, as my DSLR uses CF cards). It's sits below the PC card slot.

BTW, my R61 is a 2.1GHz T8100, 2GB RAM, 14.1" WXGA, WinXP, yadda, yadda, yadda.

i'm just about to pull the trigger on a R61 myself. those sales & discounts are (hopefully) adding up and i can't live with my old A31 much longer. every time i try to do something, i have to connect 6 peripherals

that 9 cell battery's gonna be nice! let us know how it goes with your new machine!
cheers,
