Is t9500 worth it compared to t7700 ?

#1 Post by akim » Fri Feb 15, 2008 6:26 pm

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if upgrade from t7700 to penryn t9500 is worth it and if so, if it can simply be set on the planar with the current bios released by lenovo.

Thanks

unless you absolutely need a faster processor or absolutely have to have the latest/greatest gear for bragging rights, i don't see it being "worth it" since your T7700 (which i also have) runs extremely fast as it is.   i perform complicated machine part renderings on my T61p with solidworks 2007 and autocad 2008 64-bit under vista x64 and have never once wished my processor was faster.   i can't imagine what you'd be doing to max out your processor's ability already.

you'd be better off waiting for the nehalem architecture as it will be markedly faster than penryn. ;)

Thank you Erik,

Marketing drives me crazy :)
I am working intensely with virtual PC, and I was wondering if it were worth it or not without changing my current T61p which is the best notebook I have ever owned

i know what you mean.   i love having the best specs as much as the next person.   however, when i went from a T42p (2.1GHz pentium m 765) to my current T61p (2.4 GHz T7700 C2D) and didn't notice a huge difference in speed, i finally realized that processor specs were overrated.   memory is where it's at and i can't wait for 4GB SODIMMs to be released and all of my software to be 64-bit so i can utilize 8GB total system memory.   that will make a bigger difference than processor speed by far. :)

No way the performance improves more than 5% except for some potential new applications that use SSE4. I wouldn't bother.
