T43 sluggish with 'lag' in keyboard trackpad

I have a T43 for a couple of years and am recently noticing that there is often a delay in the keyboard and pointer...I have run every adware, spyware and virus program and even after all that I still have this problem.

I have 1.5 Gig of ram and nothing that unusual installed on the computer.

It feels like something is running in background but when I check process, the only thing I see is System Idle showing approx 98% usage.

I have a fingerprint reader but it is not used.

Any help appreciated in diagnosing this problem.

I assume you are running XP SP2. Are you running some sort of temperature monitor? If so, try turning it off. Try turning off the wireless (if that is possible with your setup). Try temporarily turning off your virus checker. Are you running any desktop program? (google desktop, etc) Do you have any "optional" hardware that is not hooked up? I have seen this problem with things like HP print drivers that keep looking for the printer over and over. Have you checked the event log?

Not running any desktop program...will try your suggestions..I wonder if this has anything to do with saving an 'image' of the computer in the event it needs to be restored?
