1) I've just bought a used x40 which came with Win Xp Home installed, but under there is a Win Xp Pro sticker. Is it possible for me to swtich somehow as I would rather use Pro.
2) I have Office 2003 installed on a different laptop that I no longer use, would it be possible to transfer that installation onto the new x40? (I don't have any install cd's and can't remember activation key etc.)
How would I go about these two things?

1. Through Product Recovery disks, you can or I believe if you use oem installation media of Windows XPP you would be able to use the serial key on the bottom of your thinkpad.
2. I think no one ever tries to memorize activation key
, they come written on or with installation disks for a purpose.
You can download a third party software like "Belarc" to find the serial key through which Microsoft Office was installed (do it on your own discretion since I'm speaking without consulting any legal matters).

Without a disk you cannot install Office 2003.
And you need to re-activate if you did have the disk.
You can also not transfer from one HD to another. Those files are all over the HD, not to mention the gazillion registry entries.
What you COULD try, is transplant the HD from that other laptop (or clone it). If the hardware from both units is similar enough, it might just work.
