"Access IBM" Key does not work...

#1 Post by Hostile » Mon Nov 29, 2004 8:33 pm

I need to reinstall a fresh copy of WinXP so I need to change my boot order in the BIOS so the CD-RW is first. When I hit the blue Access IBM key at the IBM splashscreen I get an error,

"Authentication of system services failed, press (ESC) to continue."

If I hit ESC the laptop boots into Windows.

Any ideas?

After talking with a rather rude IBM tech on the phone you just hit "F1".

The guy was rude and maybe he was thinking " Read The fooking manual ".It is written there...

( i do work in IBM, not tp support but we "live" close and you cannot imagine what people ask on the phone.....)

Funny, I couldn't find anything in my manual that addressed the error message I got.

It doesn't matter if it was there or not. When I bought this laptop I also paid for a level of support and I don't give a crap if he thought my question was stupid or not, that doesn't give him the right to be an [censored]. If you think so then you are just as much of an [censored] as he is.

When you bought the Thinkpad you bought 30 day of support, after those day, you have to pay 60 euros to have support( at least in europe) and you will be treated like the king!!

Different story if you don't want to pay the fee, that is what pay the salary of that guy that answared the phone.
You don't know how many time people phone out of the 30 days and they "pretend" help because:
1) the machine is so expencive that i pretend support
ans: If you buy a ferrari do you getfree driving lessons?
2)It takes you just five sec to give me teh solution
ans: If you don't pay the fee some day IBM will say:" Mr agent, we don't make enough money with you, bye bye"

I don't say he did right to treat you bad, i just say, sometime, people has a bad day, maybe have laugh and you will be treated like a king...

Authentication of system services failed. Press <Esc> to resume.

The IBM Predesktop Area in the HDD is corrupted. Restore it from a recovery CD.
Well that didn't work. Much to my chagrin I restored the system using the provided restore CDs (instead of installing a bare copy of Windows) and the key still does not work, and now that I think about it never has.
