Ordering at lenovo.com when do the charge your debit card

#1 Post by kafri » Sun Feb 17, 2008 6:14 pm

Hey folks, I'm going to order a T61 but only in a few days time I'm gonna have enough money on my account to pay for it. Problem is that tomorrow the current Lenovo cash code expires that offers an additional 16% rebate on the T-series laptops. Does anybody know if they charge my debit card immediately upon receipt of the order or will they not charge my card before the product has been shipped?

Thanks for your help.

Borrow the money to top up your account. That 16% discount is more than borrowing that missing amount would cost.
Usually they don't wait long until they charge your card!

I would recommend NOT using a Debit card for online purchases.

You don't have quite the same protection as a credit card. And if someone gets hold of your number they can empty your bank account as opposed to just running up the credit card.

Also many credit cards let you quickly get a temporary number that you can set with a fixed amount for one transaction. I would recommend you use a credit card.

They will wait until the order ships and the time it takes to ship will depend on what you order. A custom order will take longer than a preconfigured model (a week, maybe longer), or if it's a really popular model (like when the T60 first came out).

While your finances are your own business, I do second tselling's opinion about debit card purchases online. My suggestion is, if you can, use a credit card and then transfer the money from your debit card to your credit card. You'll have better fraud protection and you won't have to worry about Lenovo charging your account at an inconvenient time.

It took me 2.5 days to get the cap off of my credit card (they wanted a written signature faxed and a day to mull it over). I looked online and my card was ready, I logged in to Lenovo and bought my computer, a couple hours later I looked at my online credit card balance and it had been charged. So they charged it right away, makes sense to me.

Go to www.lenovo.com/cpp (contractors' payment plan) and enter "XXXXXXXX" and you will get 15% off on top of the current 25%(until March 10) plus any ecoupons you got (at least, there is an input box for ecoupons--I know fatwallet and other coupons aren't allowed for this deal). My price for what you see in my signature? $XXXXXXXX
Then again, maybe they just deflated a price they had inflated hahaha

The suggestions on TV are to spend your Federal Kicker Check on paying off debt. Well, I didn't have any debt, but now I do! hahaha

(god I hope the UPS guy doesn't leave the boxes on my doorstep while I'm at work hahaha--- it could happen hahaha)
