Bad AC Adapter Connection (on X31)?

#1 Post by bobbarker » Mon Feb 18, 2008 10:11 am

I've got an X31 I got off eBay a few months ago and since it had no AC adapter I also bought a non OEM AC adapter (checked it with a multimeter and turned out alright) and it's worked great up until now. About a month ago the connection between the laptop is finicky and I have to wrap the cable up around the screen and fiddle with it to get a connection- it still works, just not well.
My question was would it be the cheapie AC adapter I bought or the connector on the inside of the X31 causing the bad connection? I don't mind opening up the laptop and replacing the connector (I think those are available somewhere) or soldering on a slightly bigger barrel to the AC adapter (it feels a bit looser than it should).

I suggest you test your machine with a spare first then try something else. From lenovo it costs only $8.16 to buy a new AC adapter:

I've had problems with non-IBM AC adapters

I guess I'll try the second adapter (can't beat the price). I'll post again when I get the adapter and try it.

You got a deal. That page doesn't exist anymore. (Wish I'd checked this board sooner. :)
