3rd party DVD writer for T series

#1 Post by tanwp » Tue Nov 30, 2004 11:12 am

Hi, does anyone know of any 3rd party DVD writer that is able to fit into T series slim drive other than IBM's multi burner plus? Please advise. :)

I have a UJ-815 (Panasonic) that has a slot for the DVD and not a drawer. It can be made region free! One of the few Panasonic's that can and I really like it. You do have to do some surgery on the face plate yourself for it to fit the Ultrabay2000, but it works great! (Still being Panasonic/Matshita, it won't burn + media but does a superb job on -R DVD's).

Panasonic also do a UJ-835-B which is +/- 8x and RAM 3x.

Will this fit straight into a T42? Great if so. And even better if Panasonic bring out a similar size format dual layer burner.

Dan.

Unfortunately all of these Panasonic/Matshta models only burn the - format and not the +. The 815, the one I have, burns at 2X, the 825 at 4X and 835 at 8X. So far there is only firmware to make the 815 Region Free. All of these models are slot loading which is really cool....only problem is you can't use the mini cd/dvd's with them.

..small problem, if your TP is under warranty and , by any chanche , you call tech support and they make you run E-gather file, ( does a snapshot of EVERITHING) and they see you have a custom dvd, your warranty is voided ..Good luck

For the T40/T41/T42 models, only 9.5mm drives will fit the Ultrabay Slim which limits the options to the Panasonic UJ-812. The more advanced models including the UJ-830 are 12.7mm drives and will only fit in Ultrabay Plus or Ultrabay 2000 (i.e. R40/R50/R51, A31, T30, etc.,)

Here's a list of other brands of DVD Burners. Again, these are also 12.7mm so they won't fit in a T40/T41/T42:
