X31 Battery Rebuild with cheapie batteries?

#1 Post by bobbarker » Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:00 pm

I've read around and avoiding non-OEM batteries seems to be a good idea- mainly because of poor circuitry. Going to battery space for some 2200mAh cells would be $43 + shipping while I can get a non OEM for $38 shipped, steal it's cells and use the circuitry from my original OEM battery...safe idea? Batteryspace's 2200mAh cells are China made cells, too...so I'm guessing it can't hurt. I've heard Chinese cells are sub-par in quality, but are they dangerous? (and yes I've seen the *crispy* 600X). Also, my OEM battery was the newer 4800mAh type, would it still play nice with a 4400mAh build charge?

I wouldn't mess around with the battery. I'm going to buy a replacement one for my X22 from batteries.com. Use the code COLD15 to get 15% off and it's around $56 with free shipping (expires 2/21.)

Beats the heck out of replacing the cells myself....

I'd get a brand new battery for my X31 if they were readily available- but apart from the occasional eBay auction, everything out there is either a "working pull" or non-OEM. The only real option I can think of is rebuild myself, which I don't really mind.

Have you tried these guys:

http://batteryrebuild.com/

They seem pretty straight up and claim to use either Sanyo or LG cells.

W o w- good link. At $50 you can't beat refilling yourself (it's that about that much to do it yourself). I think I'll end up doing that, thanks!

Hmm.... that page looks almost identical to http://www.batteryrefill.com . It appears that they have established a secondary identity. The toll-free phone numbers are different but the 1-909 (Southern California) number is the same.

I just used this service to get my x31 battery rebuilt. I am happy, but I should warn you that it took about 6 weeks for me. Although I read that some of the batteries they opened did not go back together very clean... mine did. In fact, I was very impressed that other than some "pry marks" at spots along the seams, the battery looks almost untouched. I am getting over 3 hours from this battery now.

I actually ordered some new lithium cells from batteryspace and I'm gonna do it myself (almost the same price- no wait though). One of the things I'm finding difficult is opening the battery and I can see why ones from them would have pry marks :D
