Just got my t41 , now what ???

#1 Post by lonewollf26 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:15 pm

I don't have my wireless router yet, but I wanted to connect to the internet. How do I go about doing this. My home pc uses a cable modem cablevision optimum online. Can I simply use dial up and how do I go about doing so? thanks

Briefly:

Enable your Windows Firewall if you don't have anything else.

Then, shut off your computer, and use a CAT5 cable to connect from the back of your cable modem to the jack on the left side of your computer.

Reboot, and voila' you should be all set.

It may even work without rebooting your computer...

Enjoy!

you have to reboot your cable modem also as it's locked to the IP that was issued to the MAC address from your PC. Plugging in your Thinkpad will result in NO ip and therefore no internet :D You can clone the other system's MAC address by typing it in the device manager manually also tho that way you don't have to reboot the modem each time. That's why routers are so convinient :D (yeah you didn't get yours yet... get to it! :D )
