Cant connect to password protected (WPA, etc) WiFi Networks

#1 Post by kingweb » Tue Feb 19, 2008 3:40 am

This started happening recently. I cannot connect to a password protected network. Even my own home router. It just tells me that it was unable to connect and offers me to "diagnose" the problem. My dog could give a better diagnosis. It just says unable to connect.

Anyway, I am using windows vista 64 bit.

I am able to easily connect to any unsecured network.

And Yes, I have the password correct.

Appreciate any help.

BTW, I just reformatted and cleanly installed windows hoping that the problem would be fixed, but it is still happening. I have NOT installed lenovo's access connections. I am just using the built in windows stuff as I have always used in the past.

Thanks for the reply, but I shouldn't have to do that. I like using the built in one from vista.
I would like to get it working properly the way that it has always worked.

WIFI

Use access connections. Even with XP Pro2 I had problems with windows wifi. Much easier with access connections. I have a/b/g/n card in my T60P and with windows wifi its range was much closer in than with a.c. With access connections I can reach father out.

Are you using 64bit or 128bit codes? Are you using ASCII or HEX input methods?

You need a code that has the exact number of digits required. Some code entry utility may not back fill the missing digits correctly. For instance, the router setup utility may back fill the digits but AC may not etc. So using exact number of digits specified remove any guess work.

For instance, I use 128bit code in HEX format. So I always enter the same 26 characters. I found that ASCII method is less reliable due to the way each utility's conversion method.

If you are using WPA, in the AC Wireless Setting screen, in the selection 4. Wireless security type: drop down bar; select Use Windows to Configure...then click Properties. Proceed to use Windows utility to setup security properties.
