Opinions on USB2 PCMCIA cards for a T30
Greeting,
I'm about to purchase a PCMCIA card to upgrade my T30 to USB2. But before I get one (probably on Ebay) I wanted to check with the forum if there is a specfic type, make or model to either buy or avoid. Or does it not make any difference.
Thanks

Get one that has a NEC chipset, they are the best IMO.
Also check if they supply the USB power cable in case you need extra power.

I got one from eBay a while back for my old HP XE2 and it worked perfectly (with a little work). If using Windows 98 I’d recommend downloading the latest USB driver from the chipset vendor as the one that came with my unit was well out of date and wouldn’t install properly.
The card I got would not work without having the USB power cable attached, that may be peculiar to the XE2 but I’d find one with the power cable, just in case.

Hey TDY, EZ USB 2.0 from Apricorn is ideal and has the NEC chip. You can find them on fleabay for @ $13 or less US, of course the shipping will be a few more Deutsch Marc's.
Model #EZUSB2CB. The powered side is 100/500mA which isn't enough to power most newer hard drives at 1A. You will need a power brick for that.

I've been using the following card for years in my T30 without any problems.

I have used just the cheap(under $10.00usd) from e-bay usb cards .I never had a problem yet with them.Have used them on a # of older Thinkpads(including the A31P) with no problems.
Funny , if i plug in a usb optical mouse(logitech) into the pcmcia usb card i have to use the extra power cord. But on a external usb hard drive (size of 60gig) i can just use the one usb cable.
The optical mouse uses more power then the external usb hard drive.
The usb card i'm useing now in my A31P is this one....E-Bay item # 150217026800
