New Intel matrix driver?

#1 Post by ark » Wed Feb 20, 2008 11:16 am

The latest version of the Intel matrix driver on the Lenovo website is version 7.0.0.1020. Intel released it on May 4, 2007, and Lenovo released it four days later, on May 8.

On November 9, 2007, Intel released 7.8.0.1012. Lenovo has not yet released it.

I am curious about this update because I am getting a blue screen in iastor.sys in one particular application, and the update claims to fix blue-screen crashes in some circumstances.

Why don't you download it from Intel and see if it corrects your problem?

Create a system restore point, just in case. And I agree, go ahead and try it. Even if the OS becomes unbootable, which is unlikely in this scenario, you can do a system restore by booting from your Vista DVD. ;)

This is what I've done before starting a fresh install of XP Pro on my "baby".

1. Downloaded AND expanded the Lenovo Intel Matrix file
2. Downloadedn AND expanded the, for my chipset, compatible Intel Matrix file from Intel's website
3. Copied the latest Intel Matrix files, and pasted it in Lenovo's Matrix folder. Alle relevant files then were replaced by the latest Intel versions.
4. After installing XP Pro incl SP2, I succesfully installed the Lenovo's Intel Matrix with latest drivers.

For those of us with a T60 and not up on Windows goodness, what's a matrix driver? And why does The Matrix(TM) need a driver?

This is the driver for the Intel chipset HDD storage matirix, which includes the SATA HDD driver, the PATA driver, and for Vista users, the Turbo Memory HDD driver. IASTOR.SYS is the SATA driver, and XP users have some real problems with the native AHCI mode during install, and sometimes, other problems with various types of software that don't get along with native SATA mode in XP.

FYI, the new driver is now available from Lenovo, and installing it fixed my problem.
