Rescue and Recovery 4.2 problem

#1 Post by richk » Wed Feb 20, 2008 7:21 pm

There is a problem where R&R 4.2 (probably only on T43 and newer) interferes with running a chkdsk at boot time. This would normally be done if there is a crash that leaves files open, a disk is repartitioned or you request it manually by chkdsk /F. If R&R 4.2 is installed, the "dirty bit" is ignored at startup. Removing R&R eliminates the problem. I reported the problem to IBM support.

RR 4.2 Problem

I also have this problem with my T61. I spent 5 days trying to figure out what happened until I received your message. I have uninstalled RR. I was wondering if this has already been fixed as I use RR to backup my machine.

I had the same problem re-sizing partitions under Partition Magic 8, the error was that it could not lock the drive, the same error with chkdsk.

I removed R & R and was able to resize my partitions.
