T30 Product Recovery CDs Do Not Create SERVICE Partition

#1 Post by CYoung234 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 9:53 pm

Hi. I am rebuilding the drive on my daughters T30 (2367), and used
Product Recovery CDs to restore her HD (she had a "friend" reload XP for her, and he wiped out the recovery partition). At any rate, when I used the Recovery CDs, they did not create a SERVICE partition, as I had expected. They only reloaded XP and a few applications. No Rescue and Recovery though. I did not expect that to be the case with a T30. Can someone enlighten me as to why that would be the case? The Recovery CDs are for Models 2366 and 2367, so they should have worked.

Not all recovery disks will create the partition. I have a bunch of original IBM sets for various machines ranging from A30 to T43, and most of them do not do this.

You need HPA for the particular machine type, I'm certain someone on this forum has an ISO image of it...but not me.

Good luck.

It should have been an option in the beginning of the process if the hard drive was freshly formatted. I generally bypass the option, to allow for more storage space on the hard drive, but in the cases that it didn't show up in the beginning, I knew that I forgot to format first. Simply wiping the drive and formatting, and then reinserting the recovery disks allowed the partition to be created, if I so chose.
