Vista to XP: "ATA Channel 0" versus "Primary

#1 Post by newt43 » Fri Feb 22, 2008 1:39 am

Hello! I am in need of some wisdom from the respected thinkpad gurus here. I just did a clean install of XP on my new T61, updated all drivers, etc, and I'm noticing a couple of discrepancies:

First: In the device manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, I see the two Intel Controllers and something called "Primary IDE Channel." Under Vista, however, the same group in device manager had both intel controllers and something called "ATA Channel 0." Does this matter? Do I need XP to recognize ATA Channel 0?

Second: Under Vista, device manager showed something called Microsoft iSCSI Initiator. After my XP install, this does not appear. Again, does this matter?

I'm just trying to sort out any discrepancies between the Vista and XP device manager items. Any help you could provide would be *much* appreciated.

Thanks!

neither are cause for concern.   the first is a matter of semantics and the second a feature only found in vista.

enjoy your thinkpad. :)
