Explorer starts every time I start Windows

#1 Post by nut cracker » Fri Feb 22, 2008 11:15 am

I have Windows XP SP2 installed on my ThinkCentre and every time I start up Windows, Windows Explorer will start too. I checked the Startup items but no sign of explorer, and I tried disabling each item on the list, but without success. So what's causing this and how do I stop it?

Thanks for any advice.

"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

That tip only applies for Internet Explorer 5. Windows XP SP2 has IE6, so I'm not sure if that registry hack would work. If you want to try, back up your registry first, then do the hack, that way if it messes up the entire system, boot into safe mode and restore the registry.(start > run. Type regedit to open the registry editor. File > export to backup, File > import to restore from backup) Have you checked msconfig for startup items? (start > run. Type msconfig)
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

If you have CSS set up to mount a private volume at startup it will open the volume in explorer when it mounts.

I had a similar problem short time ago.
Finally I removed 'osCheck' from systemstart and explorer didn't start at boot time anymore. If I remember the problem started when an update was available from Norton.
