Record Now - where can I get it?

#1 Post by gtratter » Wed Dec 01, 2004 7:20 pm

I just realized that after my clean reinstall I no longer have the Record Now program. I did the re-install some 6 months ago and never had a need for RecordNow unitl now - I looked at the FAQ which points to all drivers and updates but could not find the link to download this piece of software. As usually - thank you for your help
Thank you,
Gerhard

Did you backup C:\IBMTOOLS before you did the clean install? It should be under IBMTOOLS\APPS\RECNOW\Install. You should be able to just double-click SETUP.EXE and be off and running.

I take it you no longer have the recovery partition? The application would be there, but you'll need to rebuild from it first.

Alternately if you have a set of recovery CDs the same would apply. The application would exist there but you'll need to rebuild from them to recover the app.

The C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\RECNOW is where the application installer resides. If you happened to have backed up C:\IBMTOOLS prior to the rebuild simply recover this directory and install from there.

RecordNow! is one of the applications you can't download from the IBM downloads site. You can fetch an update, but that only installs if a previous version is already installed.

There are other CD burning apps that will work just as well (or better). Roxio Easy Media Creator (formerly Easy CD Creator) is one popular product and Nero 6 Ultra Edition is another. Unfortunately both have an additional cost associated with them.

Option 1:
Look here: C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\RECNOW for the installer for Recordnow. You can run setup.exe from the relevant language subdirectory (i.e. ENU = English).

Option 2:
Go here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2373X5X
and click on downloads & drivers and scroll down to the item called Software update and you will find an upgrade to RecordNow.

You will, ofcourse, need to have proof of the older version in your system to install this upgrade. You can either follow option 1 and then upgrade or you can simply run the setup program for the upgrade and point it to the factory loaded/older version of Recordnow in C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\RECNOW so that the upgrade installation goes through.

If you don't have C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\RECNOW, then you will need to do a fresh install from recovery CDs or the HPA with the burner installed in the Ultrabay. It is my understanding that the recovery cds/hpa will not install recnow if there is no burner installed in the ultrabay.

PS: waterside beat me to it; and I concur with everything he says. Except, I have found that I can install the upgrade by following the steps in Option 2 above on both my X31 and on my work T42.

Thank you all for your feedback - I no longer have the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS directory structure and I did download the update for Record Now - before I got here to the forum - but - as you rightly pointed out - the update looks for the original and cannot find it. I'll guess I have to break down and spend some money :(
Thank you,
Gerhard
