A31 System Boards

#1 Post by Harryc » Sun Feb 24, 2008 12:02 pm

Ref. the system parts page for A31 - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 39574.html

Will any of the systemboards listed for an A31 fit into a 14" A31? If not, which ones will fit into a 14" A31? For example I know that 26P8254 fits, any others?

Harry,

from what I recall the dimensions are the same for the base, regardless of LCD size. That being said, I don't have an A31 to measure, but can send you measurements from A30p or A31p, since I have both of these. My opinion is that any A31 board will fit, but it's just that-an opinion.

On another note, I've never seen a 14" A31 machine with a CPU stronger than 1.6 if that has anything to do with any of your possible concerns.

Yes, I concur with AJ.

The left side Ultrabay cage is a little tricky to get back in after removal. There is a small square loop that has to fit over a small peg. If you pull on the release tab while inserting the cage, it should fit correctly.

Note where the single long screw goes as I had poked a hole in the case bottom before by inserting it in the wrong place.

Thanks for the replies. George, If I understand what you are saying, I should be able to get a complete 15" base and use the existing 14" LCD, Keyboard, Palmrest/bezel, battery, drives, RAM, etc. That would work out fine I think. sjthinkpader, thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that long screw :).
