Just to follow the Hardware Maintenance Manual, as best you can...

Besides following the HMM in the disassembly and assembly of the laptop, I would consider the advice I gave here:

Doesn't matter if you are taking apart a T23 or a T30; keeping track of the numerous screws that go into the laptop is fairly critical.

Good advice. I pretty much followed that type of procedure when I replaced the fan on my T23. Kept each part isolated along with their respective screws and covers. The wax paper sounds like a reeally good idea, thanks for the input.

put the new motherboard in however when I try to boot it the power light comes on but the system won't boot. Not even the fan runs, anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? The board looks like the same one (the FRU is correct),however the lock that secures the CPU is not the same type (there are two). Could this be the problem as the screw only locks the CPU in.

the old board i took out looks like it has a security chip, the new board also has the same chip. Whe I look up the board listed under the system number it says it doesn't have a chip (236683U).The board FRU number is 26P8205. ???
