DirectX 10 Avail with Latest Intel Driver for X3100

#1 Post by dfumento » Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:59 am

Latest Intel graphics drivers finally support DirectX 10. Until now even though Vista supports it which is one of the advantages of Vista over XP the Intel X3100 (Santa Rosa Platform for X61(s),t) driver did not.

From running dxdiag:
DirectX Version: DirectX 10

32 bit:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... llName=All Operating Systems&lang=eng

64 bit:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... me=Windows Vista* Ultimate, 64-bit version&lang=eng

You have to download the zip version and then run setup.exe

Release Notes for 64-bit version:

Thanks, any issues with the install? or has it been performing smoothly as before!

You have to use the *.zip version and not the *.exe version and then execute the setup.exe after the unzip. No issues doing it this way.

Er, the driver is dated Jan 10th... so how is this new? My dxdiag shows DirectX 10 with the Lenovo supplied version of the driver.

Hmm...

I have the X61s with the X3100 (GMA965 family) but this doesn't work on my laptop.

Anyone else have this problem? The message I get is:

"The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer.
Setup will exit."

What's the deal?

Uninstall the default Lenovo driver and then install the one from Intel. That worked for me.

You get this message if you download the *.exe file. If you download the *.zip file and then run setup it should work. It did for me. Otherwise you could go into the device manager and update the driver that way under the graphics adapter or you could right click on the *.inf file and I think you can do an install that way.

Is there any advantage to the new driver?

... other than DX10?

P.S. I tried BOTH the .zip and .exe files. I haven't tried uninstalling the Lenovo driver yet, but I will tonight. Here's hoping everything works afterward *crosses fingers*

In other words, is there a real-world difference in performance with the new driver? Does DX10 actually improve performance?

Upgraded (after a long, scary, non-responsive black screen) and works.

DreamScene works better. Less lag.
