WiFi keeps dying on me
WiFi keeps dying on me
Im running Win Xp SP2 on my t60 2007 and after about 2-3 hrs of use(sometimes longer) my wifi dies and the little wifi led under the screen blanks out and if i press fn+f5 its not there. I can see the bluetooth alright but WiFi is greyed out. I have all the recent updates and this was happening to me in Vista as well.
Anyone got any ideas on what this could be? HW or SW-related?
Thanks

Are you using Access Connections? This happened to me about 6 months ago, after trying to repair the connection with access connections it said something about "no associations". If that is that case uninstall access connections and reinstall it. If that doesn't fix it, then it couldn't hurt to reinstall the driver.

When the light goes off, if you go into device manager, does the Wireless card still show up under network adapters section? If it is there, does it show up as disabled?

Good question, It just happened again and I restarted as always...then it starts working again. Im gonna go ahead and check for you next time it happens. Very annoying!kelehman wrote:When the light goes off, if you go into device manager, does the Wireless card still show up under network adapters section? If it is there, does it show up as disabled?

This is the third time I'm seeing this (or at least related) problem:
Disappearing Wireless Adapter.
Wireless Card disappears.
I think it's a hardware issue.

Thanks... I actually called Lenovo today and they told me to just go ahead and send it in, no questions asked.ryengineer wrote:This is the third time I'm seeing this (or at least related) problem:

I have a similar problem on my T60 XP partition. When I run on the ubuntu recovery mode partition I get an "ipw3945 microcode SW error", so I started researching and found that the Intel 3945 miniPCI Express card sometimes fails on laptops. I ordered a new T60-specific 3945 miniPCI from an outfit on ebay for $30 and expect it this week.
Apparently that 3945 gets it's fingers into other things as well as the wireless, so it causes my cursor to jerk in ubuntu (but not XP) and the CPU slows down. There is also a download of code from Intel, and the guy at ebay gives you a pointer to it.
I think this may be one of those silent but deadly hardware failures.

Check power management first. If that doesn't cure the problem, uninstall access connections and manage your profiles with windoze (that got rid of this problem for me on two T4x computers).

T60 WiFi issues:::::::::::::::::::
I too ran into these problems and the way I finally fixed it FOR GOOD was to uninstall Access Connections. I now use WINDOWS for my wireless conections and not only did this fix the loss of wiFi, I get a better signal altogether.
Best of Luck
