X61 2.07 BIOS Update Fails

#1 Post by Kamika007z » Mon Feb 25, 2008 8:38 pm

Hi all,

I searched the forum to see if there was anyone out there who had this error, but didn't seem to find anyone that did.

I'm unable to upgrade to the 2.07 BIOS from Windows. It keeps giving the error stating: "Driver Loading failed. The Utility cannot proceed."

I'm running Vista x64 with the 2.06 BIOS, but would like to update to the newest version.

Also, I tried the bootable CD version, from the docking station, but it wouldn't boot to it.

I tried reverting back to an older BIOS, but I still had the same problem.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
John

I think the reason for your problem is actually described in the documentation for the X61T 2.10 bios update, which I recently installed on the machine in my sig. First, you may not use the windows executable to update if you are running Vista x64. Second (and they mention this separately from the the first entry so it makes slightly more sense), you may not have any docking devices attached when updating your bios. It just happens that you happen to fall into that class of users that both a) have Vista x64 and b) use the CD-rom from the dock. So although this may seem pretty arcane, looks like you're going to have to use a usb CD-rom to install that update! :?

Hey all, scratch that. I made another bootable CD and was able to flash it.

Anyone know why the Windows version would fail all the time?

Is it because it's trying to run under a 64-bit OS?

Thank you!

hart22,

Thanks for the information.

Oopsie! I flashed with the docking station. I feel like I got lucky doing it.

I will take heed to your advice for the next time 'round.

Thanks again! :)
