Upgrading T41 processor

#1 Post by buckalho » Tue Feb 26, 2008 7:49 am

I have a thinkpad T41 laptop with 1.4Ghz Banias, socket 479 mPGA, 696. I've been wanting to upgrade my processor to Dothan but still, I don't know which one can be installed on my motherboard.

Would anyone be so kind to tell me which top 5 (in speed) from the list
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_In ... processors
that I can use on my laptop? assuming I have the latest bios version (3.23 1RETDRWW)

Thanks a lot for your help :D

Check it to be sure, but:

SL7V3, SL7UZ, SL7EM, SL7EL, SL8QZ, SL8U6, SL7EN, SL8U8.

You need the 400 MT/s cards. Stepping doesn't matter.

Any Pentium Mobile with the 400MHz Front side bus will work. I have a 1.5 and am looking to get a 2.0Ghz soon.

@ buckalho: Welcome to the forum!

What you ask - upgrade of CPU in T4x's has been discussed extensively on this forum, and a wealth of information is therefore already available. Please note the Search function at the top of this page. Try it... it's for free  and e.g. search for "CPU upgrade" (and remember to check "Search for all terms"), and restrict your search to the T4x forum (this). Doing this, you will find all you need to know - both what you ask, and what you have not thought of asking (yet!) will be answered!

According to several threads on this forum, stepping do indeed matter - see e.g. the thread T4x Banias to Dothan Upgrade - Proper Stepping Required! or see the first few threads referenced to in the post of Tue Sep 04, 2007 8:37 am in the thread New T40 owner, new upgrade race!!... or search e.g. for "upgrade stepping" and see what shows up.

Note the advertisement in the Marketplace on this forum: FS: 1.8GHz Intel Pentium M Processor (Dothan CPU).

Best regards,

Johan
